With the 142nd pick

…of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams have selected Tyrese Robinson, interior offensive lineman, from the University of Oklahoma.

Oklahoma. TyreseRobinson. 142. NFL Draft Profile. Draft Network Draft Profile. IOL. player. 815

Tyrese Robinson is one of those players who seems to have no consensus. He is raw but is extremely powerful and snarling. If he played ice hockey, his forte would be body checking and brawling. He’s just the type of guy who loves to bang bodies in the trenches. And yes, I look for and appreciate that in an offensive lineman.

He is a good interior offensive lineman size, standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 317-pounds. And the first thing you notice is the simple fact that he loves to throw defenders to the ground. While some have reservations because he is not graceful and eloquent, I’m convinced that handwork and footwork can be coached up at the NFL level. But mindset, that bully-of-the-block mentality, cannot. Stuff like this:

LA Rams fans have not forgotten, nor forgiven, how the team passed up the chance to draft OC Creed Humphrey. But if the Oklahoma Sooners’ offensive line did not skip a beat with Robinson playing in the middle, there should be room to forgive and forget with this pick. The LA Rams, who are at risk of an expiring contract of offensive guard David Edwards, and in need of some oomph to their run blocking, would love the physicality and road-grader performance of Robinson in horns.

Another aspect I love about Robinson’s game is the fact that he is very vigilant at the interior spot. With A-gap blitzes, even when delayed, he has a good propensity to move off a double team and pick up the incoming defender in time to seal them off and away from the quarterback. To be honest, I think he enjoys having a new target to smash and toss to the ground. Finesse? Grace? Eloquence? Look elsewhere.

Tyrese Robinson loves to hit somebody. With the right patience, coaching, and strength training, he could be a Pro Bowl-caliber offensive guard someday.
