With the 104th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the LA Rams picked Logan Bruss, an offensive lineman, out of the University of Wisconsin. We’ve mentioned Logan Bruss before in our dream mock draft. In that one, he fell all the way to the sixth round. The LA Rams were not taking any chances with him here.
Bruss has the potential to be a solid addition to the Rams’ 2022 roster. With OT Andrew Whitworth retiring from the Rams and the loss of RG Austin Corbett to free agency, the Rams roster needed some lineman depth. Bruss can play both right guard and right tackle.
Bruss might find his NFL career might be best-suited playing guard, because of his lack of quickness. While attending the University of Wisconsin, Bruss started twenty-two games at right tackle and started six games at right guard. But he is extremely versatile, which
The rams needed O-line depth
The LA Rams are getting a bit shallow at offensive linemen depth and Bruss is a solid pick-up, especially because he can play multiple positions. In our earlier assessment of him
"“(He) can slide into the vacated utility offensive lineman role just vacated by presumed starting left tackle Joseph Noteboom…”"
A solid offensive lineman to protect veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford is a must-have if you are looking to repeat any type of success in the 2022 NFL season. And yes, this guy is a true QB bodyguard in every sense of the word.
Stafford can’t move as well as he used to, (did he ever?) so drafting offensive line depth is a smart pick to make sure your Super Bowl-winning quarterback stays healthy. With Bruss’s athletic ability and core strength, he can certainly help the LA Rams’ below-average rushing attack in 2022. Don’t be surprised if Bruss competes for a starting position this year. With three years of starting experience in college, Bruss can make an impact right away.
Does Logan Bruss check all the boxes?
At 6-foot-5 and 309-pounds, Bruss has all the size and power to be an impactful lineman in the NFL. Bruss is excellent at adapting to different running schemes, which new offensive coordinator Liam Coen loves to insert into the game plan. He has strong leverage coming off the ball which will help a lot in the power running game and does a solid job in finding his landmarks in the zone running scheme.
Bruss might have some issues with his technique in the NFL, as his hand quickness and placement can lead to some holding penalties. Also, his passing blocking is a lot better when he plays guard instead of tackle. Since he is non-explosive with his hands, defensive linemen take advantage of him in space. In 2021, while playing right guard at Wisconsin, Bruss didn’t allow a single sack.
You will find Bruss playing right guard in the NFL, but in case of emergency situations don’t be surprised if the Rams plug him at right tackle. Every NFL rookie has his strengths and weaknesses, but Bruss’s weaknesses are all coachable. That is why the Rams picked an above-average player with their 104th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft
