Return Specialist

The LA Rams were very lucky to sign a return specialist in 2021. Before the LA Rams signed PR/KR Brandon Powell, each return was very dramatic, for all the wrong reasons. A fair catch was deemed a success. Heaven forbid that the Rams would attempt a return.

That all changed when the LA Rams activated WR Brandon Powell and assigned him to special teams to attempt returning punts and kickoffs. Suddenly, the worrisome edge-of-our-seats transformed into excitement, thrills, and cheers from the edge of our seats.

I don’t mean to jinx the works here (and if you truly believe in a jinx from a random blog article about the LA Rams, then you should seek professional help), but we witnessed it in the 2021 NFL season just how quickly deep positions can be devastated by injuries. The LA Rams were thick and happy with running backs in training camp. Then, one by one, players fell to injury until the front office had to trade picks in order to add RB Sony Michel to the roster to get the Rams through.

The team is every bit at risk at their return specialist in the 2022 NFL season. Yes, the Rams will welcome back potential prospects who were trying to earn a role in the return game. They include in no particular order: RB Raymond Calais, RB Jake Funk, and WR Tutu Atwell.  But to be honest, the Rams could use more competition in the role.
