The LA Rams roster was never at a point of abundance at the outside linebacker position. In fact, with the offseason migration of veteran OLB Von Miller and rotational OLB Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, the depth chart was not overly thick even at 80 players. But you can thank the horrendous rules of the NFL for the gyrations that the team must perform to get injured Daniel Hardy to the proper injured reserve list to allow the team to designate him for return.
In short, the Rams must show Hardy on the 53-man roster at the deadline, then designate him to Injured Reserve. Then and only then will the team be able to refill that roster spot.
In the meantime, the deadline for the Rams roster cuts remains at 1:00 pm PT. That has meant that the team is forced to release a player who may be recalled after clearing waivers. For the LA Rams, that player is second-year OLB Chris Garrett.
The #Rams are waiving LB Chris Garrett, per source. Seventh-round pick last year out of Concordia (Minn.) was a preseason standout, but now looking for a new opportunity.

If the LA Rams hope to resign him, he will need to clear waivers.
What does that mean for the LA Rams outside linebacker room right now?
The LA Rams will feature:
OLB1 – Leonard Floyd
OLB2A – Justin Hollins
OLB2B – Terrell Lewis
OLBs still in the mix – Keir Thomas,
Benton Whitley
, Braydon Thomas
OLB to be designated on IR – Daniel Hardy
OLB waived: Chris Garrett, Benton Whitley
The departure of Garrett, who was expected to pick up measurable snaps in a rotational role for the Rams’ defense, means that the Rams will either look to one of their undrafted rookies or look to the NFL waiver wire for a veteran to fill out the four-man rotation at the position.
The Rams roster count is down to 74, and must still part ways with 21 additional players in the next hour.
What are your thoughts? Do the Rams go ‘as is?’ Or do you believe that the teams will add a player from the waiver wire?
