The Los Angeles Rams will be fully focused on beating the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football, but plenty of Week 5 action had implications for LA fans.
After all, even teams that do not fall on the Rams' schedule could have a significant say in postseason participation. At 2-2, in third place in the NFC West behind 5-0 San Francisco and 3-2 Seattle, the Horns have some ground to make up. They enter Monday's contest 2-1 against the NFC and 0-1 against the AFC.
Here are three games from Sunday that could bear future relevance to the Rams' fight for a playoff berth.
These Week 5 outcomes should be of interest to Rams fans
Chicago Bears (3-2) lose at Green Bay Packers (3-2)
Da Bears had an opportunity to turn the NFC North into a two-team race. Unfortunately for Bears fans, they did not: the Packers demolished them by a score of 31-7. Without quarterback Caleb Williams, Chicago was simply outgunned in this one.
The Minnesota Vikings (5-0) have a two-game lead in the division after only five games. But this Packers victory creates an early-season blockade in the conference standings with three NFC North teams - Green Bay, Chicago, and Detroit - all tied at 3-2. Securing a wild-card berth could prove difficult this season.
San Francisco 49ers (5-0) win at Seattle Seahawks (3-2)
Which team did you root for? LA fans win either way. The 49ers took this one on the road, which gives them more than a two-game lead in the division. Still, neither team was particularly sharp in this one.
They combined for seven turnovers and 13 penalties for yards. The game was ultimately decided by wide receiver Cooper Kupp's failure to move the chains on fourth-and-10 at midfield. That gave the 49ers the ball and the opportunity to run out the clock.
Also worth nothing: veteran 49ers receiver Mike Evans had another huge game. Has he sipped from the fountain of youth?
Denver Broncos (3-2) win at Los Angeles Chargers (0-5)
Now 0-5, the Chargers have dug a huge hole for themselves and are nearly at the point of needing to win all remaining games to have a chance at the postseason.
That makes the Bolts a team to watch as the trade deadline inches nearer. Despite remaining winless, their roster holds multiple win-now veterans who may be put on sale as the Chargers surrender to their disappointing fate.
Rams general manager Les Snead would love to add veteran edge rusher Khalil Mack, defensive tackle Tuli Tuipulotu, and even cornerback Donte Jackson.
Of course, the Broncos' success adds to the Horns as well, as strength of schedule could factor in as a tiebreaker in LA's playoff hunt.
As always, thanks for reading.
