Adam Schefter wild scenario for QB Shedeur Sanders falling to Rams pick at 26

It's too crazy to be true, which is why Rams fans should sit up and take head.

The Pro argument

The proliferation of NFL mock drafts, both by draft analysts and online simulators has introduced a bit of desensitivity to NFL fans. That factor certainly has been a reason why NFL fan expectations are already well-established by the time that the three-day draft event arrives. And yet, for the most part, many NFL fans are not as versed about rookie prospects as they'd like to be. They simply adopt the projections of their favorite NFL draft analysts and use those projections as the guide as to whether the Rams (or any NFL team for that matter) do well or not in real time.

Shedeur Sanders is often cited as the second-best quarterback prospect available in the 2025 NFL Draft. But why is that? He is a 6-foot-1 1/2 quarterback who tips the scales at 212 pounds. Even if you toss out the plays cited above, you cannot ignore the amazing production in two years for the Colorado Buffalos. He completed 651 of 907 passes for 7,364 passing yards, 64 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.

Yes, he was aided by the sensational performance of WR Travis Hunter. But a great receiver does very little without a great quarterback. Sanders is that quarterback.

Shedeur Sanders has the right size and production for an NFL quarterback. But his intangibles truly jump off the chart. He can get leveled by a hard quarterback sack, and still bounce back to throw for a first down or touchdown on the very next play.

Even if the LA Rams are not sold on him at the 26th overall pick, plenty of teams will be. That almost certainly will result in the Rams accepting some incredibly lucrative trade offer to move back. And I, for one, and perfectly okay with that.

The Rams front office has plenty of resolve when choosing rookies. And there is a balance at work here. The team may be selecting rookies in the 2025 NFL Draft, but there is plenty of pressure to find plug-and-play contributors. But the team does not have sufficient firepower to divert from that objective in the draft, at least with the first four picks.

So the Rams could face a difficult decision if Adam Schefter's scenario of Shedeur Sanders tumbling to the Rams at the 26th overall pick plays out. Hopefully, it does not happen. But if it does, I hope that the Rams are prepared to make the right decision.

As always, thank you for reading.
