With running back Jeremiyah Love, wide receivers Carnell Tate and Jordyn Tyson, and safety Caleb Downs off the board, the Los Angeles Rams chose to invest in their future by selecting Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson with the 13th overall pick. How did the fans react?
The unfiltered instant reaction was less than thrilled. In fact, outright disgust and disappointment come to mind.
I’m sure he’ll be a 3X MVP, 7X Pro Bowler if Rams fans are reacting like this pic.twitter.com/delY3A962C

Social media reactions were no better. One fan declared LA has been eliminated from the playoffs with the pick. Another clever fan chimed in on a Rams chat board: "You can take the pick out of Atlanta, but you can't take Atlanta out of the pick." Clever.
Other fans whined that waiting for two years to make the first-round pick from 2025 was worthless. And so it goes. The drama of Los Angeles fans has its share of overreactions. This could be one of those occasions. Even head coach Sean McVay's reaction to the pick is going viral.
It's often darkest before the dawn. Disappointment that flares up instantly is due to unrealistic expectations, not actions. Overreach? Perhaps. But if Los Angeles loves Ty Simpson, and he was there at 13, why tempt fate? There were whispers that the Arizona Cardinals had an eye to drafting Simpson.
Clearly, the Horns wanted him more.
Rams fans can take heart, NFL experts love the pick
Unhappy? Give it time. As disappointed as many fans appear to be right now, Simpson has yet to don the Sol Yellow and Royal Blue. He has yet to handle a football. But what happens when he does show up at training camp?
According to some of the most trusted NFL insiders in Rams circles, that's when the magic happens. Keep in mind that this team has drafted just two quarterbacks since hiring head coach Sean McVay. Stetson Bennett was drafted in 2023. Now Ty Simpson.
Still frustrated? Just get a load of what these experts have to say about the newest LA Rams rookie:
- Jim Everett loves the pick
- Kurt Warner says at times, Ty Simpson's tape is better than that of Fernando Mendoza
- Jon Gruden loves Ty Simpson's selection
- Louis Riddick declares Ty Simpson is exactly what the Rams are looking for
- Dan Orlovsky has loved Ty Simpson to the Rams for weeks
- Todd McShay projected Ty Simpson as early as sixth overall
In the end, there were few teams in the hunt for a quarterback in this draft. But to be fair, the LA Rams already landed All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie with their original Round 1 pick. That has to be factored into fans' assessment of this offseason.
And there are plenty of talented rookies to add to the roster on Days 2 and 3. General manager Les Snead does his best work late in the draft.
If you are not thrilled with Simpson yet, don't worry. It's better to warm up to the rookie than cool off to him. And as fans begin to witness his work ethic, fast processing, and pocket energy, that love will come. Until then, In Les We Trust.
As always, thanks for reading.
