It's bad enough that Los Angeles Rams fans have had to watch the Arizona Cardinals go from bad to good this season but things could certainly get worse for Rams fans when it comes to the Cardinals. College football fans probably don't need an explanation of how Ashton Jeanty is but for those of you who might not know the name, let's just say he's a sensational running back for Boise State.
Well, the reason why the Cardinals and the Boise State running back are being discussed on a Rams site is that Jeanty recently joked about joining the Cardinals at the professional level. Rams fans had to be panicking even just thinking about the Boise State standout joining their division rival. Jeanty said on a live stream "I could get down with Kyler " and joked that they're going to be the shortest backfield in the NFL.
Rams fans don't want to think about Ashton Jeanty joining the Cardinals
The good news is that Jeanty is going to be a high draft pick in next year's draft and if there's some good that comes from the Cardinals being good, it's that they won't have the rights to select the Boise State wrecking ball. Jeanty has 1,734 rushing yards and 23 rushing touchdowns through the Broncos' first nine games and while his numbers aren't guaranteed to translate to the NFL, Rams fans would prefer if he stayed as far away from the NFC West as possible.
Jeanty is tied for the second-best odds to win the Heisman Trophy and should be a top 10-15 pick in the draft. Running back isn't as valued as it used to be but Jeanty is a crazy good prospect so a team will certainly be using a first-round pick on him. For Rams fans' sakes, let's hope it's not the Cardinals or any of the other teams in the division.
More Rams news
CBS Sports' latest mock draft had the Cowboys taking Jeanty with the 11th pick. As noted above, the Cardinals' 6-4 record is only a positive here because it'd take them out of the running for Jeanty (unless they traded for him but doing so for a running back would be an interesting move).
The Cardinals have been one of the more surprising teams in the NFL this year and actually sit atop the NFC West after 10 weeks of action and a 6-4 record. The 49ers trail them at 5-4 with the Rams and Seahawks tied with 4-5 records. Hey, if the Rams finish with a high enough draft pick, maybe they can draft Jeanty and use him to terrorize the rest of the division for years to come.
