The Los Angeles Rams narrowly escaped Charlotte with a win over the weekend, taking down the Carolina Panthers by three points and moving on to the divisional round. The narrow victory might have some people wondering if the Rams truly are worth all of the hype they've received given how they were double-digit favorites entering the game.
It's a fair critique. The Rams didn't look like the terrorizing team that they've been for the majority of the 2025 season and, to make matters worse, they allowed the Panthers to hang around. It looked like Los Angeles might run away with it early on but, give credit to Carolina, the Panthers kept fighting and threw everything they had at the Rams.
The Dan Patrick Show talked about how the Rams might have the most to worry about out of the teams that won their Wild Card matchups considering how much they were favored by. Dan Patrick, however, dropped a key quote that Rams fans need to hear.
"Most of your teams that win a Super Bowl have one of those games," Patrick said on his show on Monday morning. "One of those games where it kind of hangs in the balance. And that might be the game for the Rams. That was a game they could have lost."
Close game vs. Panthers might be exactly what Rams needed
Patrick absolutely nailed it with this quote. We see close games in the playoffs all the time and eventual Super Bowl champions often are a part of those close games.
Just last year, Rams fans saw their team nearly knock off the eventual Super Bowl champion Eagles in the NFC Divisional Round. The year before that, the Chiefs only beat the Ravens by a touchdown in the AFC Championship Game and narrowly got past the Bills in the AFC Divisional Round.
This is just small proof that playing close games isn't something that should worry fans in the playoffs. If anything, it'll prepare the Rams more for what's to come and how to respond in those situations.
So yes, it's okay to be anxious about the Rams barely beating a Panthers team with a losing record but don't let that be what takes you off the Rams bandwagon. Super Bowl teams play close games all the time in the playoffs and this very well could have just been the "Oh man" game for the Los Angeles Rams on their path to Super Bowl 60.
