The Los Angeles Rams are an NFL player's dream, a team that makes every effort to compete for a Super Bowl victory and tries to remain open-minded and honest with players. Even when negotiations hit an impasse, the team has been known to give players and their agents plenty of leeway to seek trades and better offers elsewhere. Even when trading players, the team accepts less value to ensure players land on a desirable team.
Still, even in these conditions, some players are simply never satisfied. Such was the case with former featured running back Cam Akers, who suffered a devastating Achilles injury in 2021. He never seemed to be the same player afterward.
He remained with the Rams from 2020 through the early part of the 2023 season. He was unhappy in 2022 with a diminished role and demanded to be traded. Unfortunately, the team found no team interested in him, and the two sides reconciled. He was unhappy once more in 2023 and confronted the coaching staff once more with his complaints. On this occasion, the team did manage to find a trade partner in the Minnesota Vikings.
Cam Akers continues to seek an NFL role
Since leaving LA, Akers has trialed with four teams, including the Vikings twice, the Houston Texans, and the New Orleans Saints. This year, he signed with the Saints in an attempt to get his NFL career back on track. He also had the added benefit of facing his former team, as the Saints and the Rams square off on November 2, 2025.
But his plans for a renewed career just suffered a significant setback. Despite the fanfare and hype that marked his signing in NOLA, he simply did not do enough to retain a roster spot. So, he is back in the free agency market, awaiting his next opportunity.

It's not an easy thing to make a roster. And the 26-year-old has two strikes against him. Not only has he suffered multiple serious injuries, but he created so many headaches with the team that originally drafted him that they essentially traded him away for nothing.
Don't get me wrong, I wish the best for Cam Akers. It's just that I suspect he didn't realize what a good opportunity he had in Horns. It's like the adage says: Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it. He wanted the chance to earn a starting role on a new NFL team. He is entering his third NFL season since being traded, and he is still looking. As always, thanks for reading.
