Former Rams All-Pro veteran responds to 49ers fan social media trolling

If you say it on social media, you'd better be prepared for rebuttal.

The debate between LA Rams (9-6) and San Francisco 49ers (6-9) fans continues to be waged on social media, despite the 49ers' early elimination from post-season contention. The latest conflict to flare up on social media is the fact that the Rams HC Sean McVay has led the team to seven of eight winning seasons since he was hired in 2017, while 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan has allowed his team to suffer four of eight losing seasons over the same time frame.

While many 49ers fans are knowledgeable and respectful, there is an enclave of very loud 49ers fans who love to troll anyone and everyone on social media. Of course, they have appeared nearly as often in Rams forums or websites now that they have lost three consecutive games to the Rams. But when they enjoyed a winning streak over the Rams in the regular season, 49ers fans routinely popped in to troll.

And yet, the same 'fans' who loved to troll other NFL teams are very sensitive and defensive when the narrative cites less than complimentary facts about their team. This is a perfectly factual and logical social media extract that started the over-the-top reaction from at least one 49ers fan:

Nothing about the statement was inaccurate nor provocative. It was simply a statement of historic facts, and fans who read the statements can draw their own conclusions. Unfortunately, it triggered a 49ers fan to cry foul, while trying to rewrite history into some form of unfair comparisons and rationalizations.

Thankfully, former Rams left tackle and Walter Payton Man of the Year recipient Andrew Whitworth was having none of that:

In retrospect, these two NFC West powerhouses have dominated the NFC West Division since 2017. Since hiring Sean McVay as the Rams head coach, the Rams have won the NFC West Division title three times, and the 49ers have won the division title three times. The only exception was 2020, a year that saw the Seattle Seahawks win the division.

To be fair, the Rams pivoted instantly upon the arrival of Coach McVay. The 49ers struggled to gain traction until 2019. Despite there combined dominance, the Rams have gotten the better of the 49ers of late. Clearly, 49ers fans who grew accustomed to trolling Rams fans, are unhappy about recent turn of events.

Fortunately, Andrew Whitworth is more than happy to sit them back down. As always, thanks for reading.
