The Los Angeles Rams wanted to sign a fourth quarterback before training camp arrived, and the team was given every opportunity to make it a meaningful signing. While the team was content with continuity over three returning quarterbacks, wouldn't it have been fun to bring in a fourth throwing arm who could shake up the depth chart this season?
The Rams love to reinsert players with previous ties to the organization, and UFA MVZP Bryce Perkins checked all the boxes. He is no longer the raw quarterback who needs coaching to know what to do and where to throw the football. He has shed his training wheels years ago, and is now completely worthy of another shot in the NFL. Better still, he knows the Rams offense and coaching staff as well as anyone.
However, the team opted to go in a different direction. You see, Rams rumors reported a month ago identified former backup quarterback Dresser Winn as the inevitable next quarterback to join the team. And when that news broke, fans were a bit dismayed. And here we are, one month later, and the rumors have proven to be true.
The Rams have signed QB Dresser Winn to the roster once again.

The question is, why?
We offered up three logical reasons in our earlier article as to why Winn makes sense. Those reasons included continuity, hierarchy, and budget. But in the interim, we have an additional reason why Winn makes sense here:
Time for some Winnovations
We'd shared some thoughts about the 2025 Rams offense. While the Rams may be content to run the same offense as last season, the team's roster reflects an eruption of offensive innovations to be sprung on unsuspecting defenses this season.
Rams HC Sean McVay hinted in the offseason that he was intrigued with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense under former Rams OC Liam Coan. And to clarify what that means, we conducted a deeper dive to determine what might be in store for the Rams in 2025. It turns out that the Bucs offense places more value on the running back and tight end roles.
Lo and behold, the Rams invested valuable picks into both positions in the 2025 NFL Draft.
So it only makes sense that if sweeping changes are planned for the offensive playbook in 2025, the team would want to limit the number of other variables for the new season.
At the same time, NFL teams infuse competition into training camp out of uncertainty. While competition is always good, the Rams are very confident in their three existing quarterbacks and their projected roles for the 2025 NFL season. As other teams must battle through bad locker room mojo, the Rams' mojo is brighter and stronger than ever.
Dresser Winn is not back to compete for a starting role, nor was that ever the goal. He is back to fill a training camp need, earn some summer money, and perfect his craft for the next chapters of his NFL career. When you think about it, it's a simple plan that actually makes a lot of sense. As always, thanks for reading.
