The New York Giants contacted him first. But the Los Angeles Rams get their man, as the team is hiring former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury to an unidentified role on offense. Smart money suggests that Kingsbury will be named the new offensive coordinator, but time will tell.

The Giants opted to hire Matt Nagy as their offensive coordinator. Per NFL insider Peter Schrager, that cleared the way for Kingsbury and Los Angeles to sit down and hammer out a contract. But is this a matter of the Giants' loss being the Rams' gain?

Time will tell.

For LA fans, Kingsbury's arrival brings a host of new opportunities and innovations to an offense that led the NFL in scoring points in 2025. And his track record with Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray could give Stetson Bennett a chance to play a much larger role in the team's future. The thing is, this may not have been possible if the Giants had keyed on Kingsbury first.

Rams role appears more attractive on paper

Although the LA Rams offensive coordinator will not be calling offensive plays, the role itself seems to be far more attractive on paper than a job for the New York Giants. Four previous offensive coordinators have been hired by other NFL teams as head coaches.

Since it's the goal of every coach to be the head coach of his own team someday, that track record is impossible to ignore.

The Giants did not do Los Angeles any favors out of the goodness of their hearts. They had many offensive coordinator candidates in the queue, and Kingsbury never got past the virtual interview phase. Names linked to the Giants have included Todd Monken (before he accepted a role with the Cleveland Browns), Davis Webb, and Charlie Weis Jr.

Kingsbury knows the competition in the NFC West. Matt Nagy has whetted his coaching chops with the Chicago Bears and Kansas City Chiefs. For the Rams, Kingsbury appears to be the better fit.

As always, thanks for reading.
