Hero of Rams miraculous victory was not even on the team to start the season

He never doubted himself for a moment.

The Los Angeles Rams finally learned whether or not former UFL kicker Harrison Mevis had the confidence to stand out under the brightest lights and the biggest stages of the NFL. It was something some fans were begging to discover from the 'Thiccer Kicker.'

Well, they found out. As fans relish the most unlikely of wins, the Thiccer Kicker not only proved to fans he can boot a game-winner, but showed the entire NFL that he knows snow.

It was considered a minor move when general manager Les Snead signed Mevis mid-season. He was added to a roster that desperately needed to improve field goal accuracy. But the former UFL kicker may have overshot the mark by a mile.

Harrison Mevis is not entirely flawless. He missed one field goal since entering the NFL, a kick that would have won the game for LA over the Seattle Seahawks. But for a guy who only joined the team in November 2025, he has made quite an impression. He's made 12-of-13 field goals and all 39 extra point attempts in the regular season. He is four for four in field goals and six for six at extra points in the postseason.

He's a keeper.

Harrison Mevis deserves all the credit for this win

It's nothing new for Harrison Mevis, who kicked 20-of-21 field goals for the UFL Birmingham Stallions. Originally signed as a collegiate free agent by the Carolina Panthers in 2024, he failed to win the competition and was released. He stuck with his dream of playing football by earning a job as the Stallions' kicker.

When the Rams special teams struggled this season, the team made sweeping changes. Veteran long snapper Jake McQuaide replaced Alex Ward, and Mevis ultimately replaced second-year kicker Joshua Karty. While Mevis arrived in November, he was not asked to kick a field goal until his third game.

He kicked two field goals against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, including a season-long field goal of 52 yards.

Mevis is one of those under-the-radar acquisitions who prove to be a major contributor that Les Snead is famous for. It's clear that Mevis kicked two field goals and scored eight of 20 offensive points for the Horns.

And this was a bitterly cold game. Perhaps other players felt it. Harrison Mevis did not.

Analyze away. There is plenty to concern fans despite the win. But for now, a wind is a win. And it's thanks in no small part to a kicker who wasn't even with the team at the start of the season. As the LA Rams pivot to face the Seattle Seahawks, this is a moment that the coaches, players, and fans desperately needed.

As always, thanks for reading.
