The Los Angeles Rams may or may not be in the market for a quarterback in Round 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft. After all, until we understand who is available at the 26th overall pick of the draft, what opinion based on reality can we truly hope to form? We can hypothesize what actions the team may or may not take if an unexpected rookie prospect falls to the team at the 26th overall pick. But until that player falls to that spot, it's simply a mental exercise.
There has been a great deal of NFL rumors and speculation linking Mississippi QB Jaxson Dart to the Rams in Round 1. But that only plays out if Dart is on the board at 26. Still, there is another scenario that holds a great deal more risk-reward in the balance. And it involved Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
Even as ESPN draft analysts continue to saturate the public with speculation that places Jaxson Dart with the Rams, there is a separate draft narrative that is creating a free-fall scenario projection for Shedeur Sanders. Some NFL draft analysts love Sanders and see him as a Top-10 pick. Other draft analysts do not agree, and have Sanders as a late Round 1, early Round 2 prospect.
It's that polarizing set of perspectives that is creating a ton of pre-draft buzz over where in the draft Shedeur Sanders hears his name called out.

The discussion between NFL Insider Adam Schefter and Pat McAfee podcast co-host Ty Schmitt focuses on the likely landing spots for Shedeur Sanders if he falls out of the top five selections. From that point, it's a matter of which teams are viewed as needing quarterback help. That could include the New York Jets at 7, the New Orleans Saints at 9, or the Pittsburgh Steelers at 21.
But if Shedeur Sanders falls past the Steelers, his next landing spot has to be the Los Angeles Rams at 26. Neither Schefter nor Schmitt mentions the Rams, as the third alternative is a trade back of either the Browns or the Giants to the 20th pick (held by the Denver Broncos) to select Shedeur Sanders ahead of the Pittsburgh Steelers at 21.
But there is no mention of what happens if he falls past the Steelers.
I have to believe that he is a legitimate option for the Rams at the 26th overall pick. His draft profile grade is sandwiched between Bo Nix and Michael Penix Jr. from the 2024 NFL Draft. Both rookies had promising performances in their rookie seasons.
Sanders is very unlikely to fall to the Rams at the 26th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. But the Rams front office has to be prepared if he does. Do the Rams pull the trigger on drafting Shedeur Sanders at 26 if he's there? Do the Rams choose him over other quarterbacks at 26 if there are multiple talented quarterbacks on the board?
