The 11-4 Los Angeles Rams are heading for the NFL playoffs. While some fans cling to a thread of hope that the team will win enough games to land the NFC West Division title, the team appears content to prioritize the health of players over seeding.
And that is a wise decision.
The team needs everyone to be healthy and competing to have the best chance of winning. Unfortunately, veteran wide receiver Davante Adams reinjured a nagging hamstring injury in Week 15 in a victory over the Detroit Lions. He sat out a vital contest in Week 16. He is likely to sit out the remainder of the regular season.
Adams is a touchdown-maker. Despite not cracking 1000+ receiving yards, he has stunned the NFL by scoring 14 touchdowns in just 14 games played. Curiously, that total may end up leading the entire NFL at season's end. But as it stands now, he is unlikely to suit up in either of the last two games.
Davante Adams will be a huge boost to Rams roster for playoffs.
Los Angeles lost by one point to the 12-3 Seattle Seahawks in overtime to fall from the NFL top-seeded berth in the postseason to the sixth-seeded position. The thing is, that was a game on the road, and Adams sat it out.
Currently, fans question whether the team can afford not to win out and rely on some form of cosmic intervention to throw a speedbump at the Seahawks and the 11-4 San Francisco 49ers. But this team has defeated the San Francisco 49ers on the road and barely lost to the Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks, and Philadelphia Eagles on the road.
LA enters this postseason with every confidence in the world.
Despite the generous hospitality of the Arizona Cardinals in the NFL playoffs last season, the Horns' lone home game in last year's playoff was played in Arizona, not Los Angeles. So this team is battle-tested
The team had played Adams for weeks despite a nagging hamstring injury. His injury in Week 15 allows the team to bench him and allow that injury to fully heal. The wily veteran's superpower is his ability to stop and start on a dime, and he needs to be healthy enough to make those moves on a football field.
Now, he will get the chance to fully heal.
Sure, that means that the Rams roster must absorb his absence for two more weeks. But ultimately, he will return just in time for the NFL playoffs. This may be a bit of a gamble, but you can trust the coaching staff to make the right call.
As always, thanks for reading.
