LA Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua has fought through a series of injuries this season. The team's offense is certainly far more effective when he suits up. Unfortunately, that has not been the case often enough this season. He has played in three games so far. Two of those games ended early. In Week 1, Nacua was injured and did not return. In Week 9, he was agressively shoved in the back by a Seattle Seahawks after a Matthew Stafford interception. When he threw a punch in retaliation, he was ejected from the game.
In the one game he saw through from start to finish, he caught seven of nine passes for 106 yards, and helped the Rams upset the visiting Minnesota Vikings in Week 8.
Before his Week 9 ejection, Nacua was listed as questionable status. He tweaked his previously injured knee, and was unable to step up to the podium for a scheduled press conference. So in a way, his early ejection may have been a blessing in disguise. He was not subjected to further injury, and therefore be at his peak for Week 10.
The Rams offense seems to operate at a much higher level with Nacua on the football field. Two of the Rams best offensive output has been those two games with Nacua's production. The team scored 20 points in Week 1, and 28 offensive points in Week 8.
The Rams face a huge test in Week 10. While the Dolphins (2-6) have struggled to find success in 2024, they have a dominating defense. Leading that defense is former LA Rams All-Pro DB Jalen Ramsey, who continues to stymie opposing receivers. There is no reason to expect the Rams to find big yards against him.
It's far wiser to put Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua, and Demarcus Robinson in routes, and simply target the receiver who does not draw Ramsey in coverage. We know that was effective when the Rams boast Ramsey on the roster. Now, the Rams offense can use that knowledge to plan an effective offensive attack.
Yes, Puka Nacua is playing in Week 10. And as a result, the offense could have a better-than-expected game.
As always, thanks for reading.
