Is it too early to call the blockbuster trade that sent Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams and Jared Verse to the Cleveland Browns a win-win? While neither team has taken a single snap in the 2026 NFL season, early indications are that both sides have stumbled into a rare instance where each traded player is a better fit in his new environment.

Garrett's fit in Los Angeles is clear. He is a game-changing veteran who wants to win now. With the Rams, he finally finds himself on a roster built to do exactly that. But don't feel bad for Verse. While he migrates to a franchise that has yet to have much success since, well, the Super Bowl era, he brings a competitive fire to the Browns roster that will surely ignite passion in his teammates:

"You can tell how a team is by how they practice," Verse said after his first such session in Cleveland. "You see losing teams practice terribly. You see great teams practice amazingly. It translates. That's not a losing team out there. The way everybody was moving, I didn't get to get into the team situations today, that's going to be another day. But the way them boys are moving, this isn't a losing team."

Champions do not seek successful opportunities. They manufacture them. Even in his young career, Verse is that type of player. He is a fierce competitor. He is a lightning rod. He can set an entire fanbase against him with his brash trash-talking, but earn their respect for his formidable play on the field.

Did history just repeat itself for Rams?

There are undeniable similarities in the Verse trade to Cleveland and the Jared Goff trade to Detroit. The Rams drafted both in the first round. Both found success in LA. Both players were ultimately shipped to a struggling team, with a king's ransom of draft picks, to acquire an elite veteran - Garrett in exchange for Verse and Matthew Stafford for Goff.

The parallels are obvious. Will the outcomes be similar, too? The early signs suggest that the answer is yes.

While bidding Verse goodbye is painful, the Rams should be thrilled. The team is built to win now. Stafford took LA over the top. Garrett hopes to do the same this season.

Like Detroit, Cleveland has good reason to be satisfied with its own part in the deal. On top of a talented player to build around, the Browns received an overwhelming haul of draft picks. The Lions amplified Goff's impact with the help of rookie contributors. The Browns should have the chance to leverage the addition of Verse in similar fashion.

For now, he is content to begin planting the seeds of a winning culture. Verse understands that what he learned in a successful organization like the Rams' can also illuminate Cleveland's future. Firing up his teammates is a good start.

He is already proving he knows what it takes to deliver in a new environment, surrounded by new teammates. Browns fans haven't had much cheer about in recent decades, but Verse is ready to turn this thing around and bring winning football back to the franchise. Clevelanders, you got a good one.

As always, thanks for reading.
