The casual viewer might not have noticed the return of Los Angeles Rams safety Kam Kinchens in Week 4. That's okay. He doesn't need the limelight or the accolades. But it's impossible to ignore the results.

With the feisty Kinchens back, the Rams held Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts to just 12 of 27 passing for 93 yards and two touchdowns. Factoring in four sacks, Philly's team passing yards plummeted to 68 for the entire game.

Kinchens was everywhere. He contributed six tackles, earned half a sack, deflected a pass, and delivered hard hits throughout the game. While he did surrender one 15-yard touchdown reception, Kinchens was one of the best defenders on the field.

Kinchens rejoining fellow safeties Quentin Lake and Kam Curl in the secondary allowed defensive coordinator Chris Shula to play cat-and-mouse with the Eagles offense by sliding Lake into slot coverage. Kinchens' versatility and speed made it possible, to stupendous effect for the LA defense.

Kam Kinchens gave Rams defense a needed shot in the arm

It's no coincidence that Kinchens' return helped Shula orchestrate one of his best games as a coordinator. Shula's crew dominated despite the absence of defensive tackle Aaron Donald, edge rusher Myles Garrett, and cornerback Jaylen Watson.

Kinchens help restore balance to the defense. His physical style of play not only anchors dependable performance at the safety position, it also lets Shula mix and match coverage and blitz schemes to keep offenses off kilter.

Philly's offense failed to convert once on 12 third-down attempts. That's gloriously impressive. The Eagles only managed to convert 1-of-4 fourth-down tries. Just a week earlier, the Rams let the Denver Broncos go 7-for-13 on third down.

Kinchens is fun to watch. He has no fear, getting in the grill of even the biggest and toughest receivers. While he has yet to pick off a pass in 2026, he has six interceptions to his credit in his previous two seasons.

Returning from his hamstring injury, Kinchens will need time and patience to re-integrate fully into seamless secondary play. His debut was an encouraging sign. Kinchens was fueled, not flustered, by the negative energy of the hostile Philadelphia crowd.

Kam Kinchens is back, and this Rams defense is ready to play.

As always, thanks for reading.
