When it comes to the Los Angeles Rams and the annual NFL draft, no news is often good news. After all, the Rams tend to keep their cards close to the vest when it comes to their draft plans. So far, that's worked well. In the past two drafts, the results have been spectacular. But the 2025 NFL Draft may be a bit different.
Historically, the Rams do their best work in Rounds 2 through 5. But in the 2025 NFL Draft, almost all teams have the notion to focus on that segment of the draft to find the best value. So there is a herd mentality that will increase the demand while doing nothing for the supply. So the Rams will face more competition than ever.
And then there is the matter of former Rams personnel executive James Gladstone's defection to become the new General Manager of the Jacksonville Jaguars. While he may need time to fully replicate the Rams' draft process and data analytics, he has already imported some Rams predraft methods to emulate how his former team handled predraft encounters with rookie prospects.
And then there are the persistent rumors that link the team to some of the top quarterbacks in this draft. One name that is certainly a bit of a shock is that of Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Originally expected to be one of the early quarterback selections, NFL reporter Kay Adams now shares rumors that name the Rams as the fifth-most-likely landing spot for the rookie quarterback.
Good morning to a major shift in Shedeur odds this morning. 🤔

Steelers now the favorite…Giants 2nd…Saints down to 4th.

So what? The Rams are linked to many rookie quarterbacks at the moment. So this is just one more name flying around in the internet ether. Well, Shedeur Sanders is a rather controversial rookie prospect. On some draft boards, he is considered outside of the top-three quarterback prospects, and is expected to fall to Round 2.
The Shedeur thing is getting interesting.

Sounds like Browns/Giants are out at 2-3.
Saints beat all saying no at #9.
If the Steelers aren't in at #21, where does he go?
And does that open the door for mystery teams we haven't been considering? Rams? Seahawks? Colts? etc.
But on other draft boards, he is considered the second-ranked quarterback prospect, and potentially selected among the top 10 rookies taken in the 2025 NFL Draft. In those reports, Sanders could be selected by the New Orleans Saints with the ninth-overall pick.
But on at least one draft big board, Shedeur Sanders is the top-ranked rookie quarterback:

i will not pretend to know how the Rams view Sanders, but I have expected him to be long gone before the Rams pick with the 26th overall selection. But I never expected Florida State outside linebacker Jared Verse to fall to the Rams with the 19th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft either.
If Sanders falls to the Rams at 26, do the Rams pick him? Perhaps. I suppose it depends on the alternative players on the board at the same time. The Rams had met with three rookie quarterbacks so far, none of whom were Shedeur Sanders. The team met with QBs Tyler Shough, Quinn Ewers, and Jalen Milroe. All three quarterbacks are projected to fall to Round 3, a round in which the Rams have two late picks.
Do the Rams have no interest in Shedeur Sanders? Or has the team merely focused on other QB prospects from the presumption that Sanders will be long gone before the team makes a pick in Round 1? Some may scoff at the idea that Sanders could fall to the Rams. Others will protest that Sanders is an NFL-ready quarterback, or even that he is not a fit for the Rams roster. But it's all speculation at this point.
Could the Rams flourish with Shedeur Sanders as their starting quarterback in the future? The coaching staff is certainly structured to coach up young hurlers. And it's no secret that the Rams are taking the opportunity to vet several strong quarterback prospects.
Which rookie quarterback will the Rams select? While unlikely, the Rams are projected to be the fifth most-likely team to draft Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. If the team does draft Sanders, their future instantly becomes much brighter.
As always, thanks for reading.
