Earlier this season, it looked as though the Los Angeles Rams were destined to compete in Super Bowl LX. But as the season wore on, losses to the Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, and Atlanta Falcons dropped the team from NFC West Division contention.
Yet, they persevered and made it to the NFC Championship Game to take on the rival Seattle Seahawks in the rubber match.
The Rams' Super Bowl 60 dreams ended after losing 31-27 to the Seahawks. There were some mistakes that ultimately cost the Rams, such as the muffed punt by Xaver Smith leading to a Seahawks touchdown and the Rams' failed red zone drive late in the fourth quarter. The Rams were in the game throughout, but just didn't have enough magic to help them advance to the big game.
After the game, Rams defensive tackle Kobie Turner looked at the bright side on the loss, saying that each year the team has only gotten closer to making it to the Super Bowl.
"We've gotten further and further, and we're gonna keep coming back. We talked about being courageous this week, and that's what courage is. It's to take a loss, look it in the face and say 'I'm still gonna go back and put in just as much work, if not more," said Turner, h/t The Athletic's Jourdan Rodrigue.
Kobie Turner looks at the bright side when discussing Rams' NFC Championship Game loss
Turner has been with the Rams since the 2023 season after being selected in the third round out of Wake Forest. He made an immeidate impact his rookie year, as highlighted by his nine sacks as a rotational defensive lineman, earning him a third place finish in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.
He has a total of 24 sacks, 27 tackles, and 43 quarterback hits for loss through his three seasons.
Since entering the NFL with the Rams, Turner has been to the playoffs every season, and each year, it was one step closer to the Super Bowl. In 2023, the Rams made it to the Wild Card Round, where they lost 24-23 to the Detroit Lions and former quarterback Jared Goff.
The following year, the Rams defeated the Minnesota Vikings 27-9 in the first round, but lost 28-22 to the eventual Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, in the Divisional Round.
This year, the Rams defeated the Carolina Panthers 34-31 in a tense Wild Card Roudn game. Then, they followed it up with a somehow even more stressful 20-17 overtime victory over the Chicago Bears in the Divisional Round. Then on Sunday, the Rams lost to the Seahawks to fall short of reaching Super Bowl 60.
Turner isn't lying when he said the Rams have gotten a step closer each year. Given the makeup of the roster and how well they draft, it would be difficult to rule them out of contending for the Lombardi Trophy next season. Ironically, Super Bowl 61 will be held at SoFi Stadium, the Rams' home stadium. It would be somethign if the Rams competed in the Super Bowl and win yet again on their home turf.
This season ended in disappointment, but there's a lot to look forward to next season.
