LA Rams HC Sean McVay shares decision over WR Demarcus Robinson for Week 13
By Bret Stuter
Yes, there is a cloud of uncertainty hanging over the head and future of LA Rams veteran wide receiver Demarcus Robinson. And that all sprang from a cascade of reports over the arrest of Demarcus Robinson earlier in the week under suspicion of DUI. As that story continues to unravel, there was a more immediate matter that directly impacted Robinson's status for the team in Week 13.
The Los Angeles Rams (5-6) travel to take on the New Orleans Saints (4-7) and the Rams are at the brink for all practical purposes in the hunt for postseason competition. And WR Demarcus Robinson is one of the best scoring receivers on the team.
His importance to the offense made the team's decision over Robinson's fate critical to the team's decision. And it almost certainly led the team to make it's decision over his fate. And so, the Rams will let the league investigation play out, but until directed by the NFL, will allow Robinson to play on Sunday.
Was it the right decision?
You decide. The Rams decision does not oppose whatever the NFL investigation advises or directs the official league response to the incident. It is simply the team continuing on as before until the NFL formally concludes what must be done.
Demarcus Robinson has already outplayed his 2023 NFL season for the Rams, While his catch percentage has tumbled, he has more receiving yards, more first downs, and more receiving touchdowns than one year ago.
The Rams has seriously underperformed expectations this season, and the team needs as much of Demarcus Robinson as possible. Robinson leads all receivers with six touchdowns, with the remained of the team accounting for nine. So Robinson's absence would be a huge blow to the team.
But Robinson is perfectly suited to be the third receiver option in this offense behind Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp. He has even scored five touchdowns for the team since their Week 6 BYE week. Robinson will likely be subject to some NFL verdict, but for now that ruling is still in the future. The Rams need to win now, so the Rams have opted to allow Robinson to compete.
As always, thanks for reading.
