Last year's early rust already banished for Rams' Matthew Stafford and Davante Adams

In 2025, the Los Angeles Rams paired future Hall of Fame receiver Davante Adams with future Hall of Fame quarterback Matthew Stafford. Then Stafford suffered a back injury that benched him for the entirety of training camp. While he returned in time to start the season, his absence eliminated any chance of generating early chemistry with Adams.

That lack of an engrained connection showed in Adams catching barely more than half the passes thrown his way on the year.

Fixing sub-optimal catch rates for Adams, wide receiver Konata Mumpfield, and tight end Terrance Ferguson would go a long way in propelling a dangerous offense to be even more effective. How has Stafford's participation in this year's training camp turned out so far?

Lo and behold, his chemistry with Adams is already elite. To hear head coach Sean McVay speak, last season's troublesome lack has been corrected. If Adams' catch rate this season just mirrors his career average, he would add more than 150 receiving yards to his 2025 total, which settled at 789 to go with 60 receptions and a league-best 14 TDs.

Early Stafford-Adams connection will make 2026 Rams offense even better

Lost in the shuffle is the fact that the Rams offense worked through numerous challenges last season. In their first seven games, they twice failed to eclipse 20 points. In fact, the offense averaged only 25 points per game before the Week 8 Bye.

But things changed rapidly once the Rams pivoted to multiple-tight-end formations. The surprising change befuddled defenses. All four tight ends on the roster recorded at least three touchdowns. Colby Parkinson managed to find the end zone eight times.

Looking back, it feels cear that LA was forced to change tactics; it was not a matter of choice. Adams was not as effective as hoped. And by the time he found his groove, he was injured and sat out three games. Even veterans need time to sync up.

Stafford and Adams finally have their chance, and in turn, LA's offense will get just the boost it needs to remain atop the league. The future Hall of Fame duo is already humming.
