It's the last thing the Los Angeles Rams need.

Matthew Stafford is one of the toughest quarterbacks in the NFL, and it takes a lot for him to exit the game. Unfortunately, he took a nasty hit while scrambling on the Rams' first possession of their NFC Divisional Round game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Stafford returned on the next series, but he was clearly uncomfortable.

He completed a pass but then took a sack for a prompt Rams three-and-out. It's something to monitor throughout the game.

The Rams have an experienced backup quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo, should they need him, but any realistic hope of beating the Eagles requires a healthy Stafford.

Matthew Stafford appeared to suffer a rib injury in Rams' playoff game vs. Eagles

According to The Athletic's Jourdan Rodrigue, Stafford had a heating device under his coat while on the sideline. He looked in clear discomfort after taking a hit to the ribs on the opening drive.

For now, Stafford appears to be OK and has continued to play. He had no issues while completing a 48-yard pass to Demarcus Robinson. But it's undoubtedly something to watch as the game goes on. It's cold, snow is on the way, and Stafford has already taken a big hit in the game.

It's going to take a huge effort from the Rams' offense to get the road win and advance to the NFC Championship Game. The defense allowed two big rushing touchdowns in the first quarter — a 44-yard rush from Jalen Hurts followed by a 62-yard score from Saquon Barkley. The Rams can't afford to fall too far behind.

Stafford's availability is the priority. He looks OK and has stayed in the game, but it's something to watch closely on the next few possessions.
