Every NFL rookie gets their “welcome to the league” moment. For Los Angeles Rams seventh-round pick Konata Mumpfield, that moment came with a $15,000 main course... with a possible side of a roster spot.
At the wide receiver rookie dinner, Mumpfield found himself on the receiving end (pun intended) of an age-old tradition: the veterans rack up an absurd bill and stick it to the rookies. Davante Adams documented the moment on Instagram as the rookies were handed a $15,022.21 check. Mumpfield’s reaction? A response we've all shared at least once, “We’ll be splitting this.”
“Welcome to the league my boys” 😭 Davante Adams, Puka and the vets just made Rookie WR Konata Mumpfield & the Rooks pay the $13,000 bill from their WR dinner tonight 🤣 pic.twitter.com/n0ecSp3qIu

While it made for a hilarious moment, it might also signal something so much bigger for the 22-year-old. Adams isn't going to hand a five-figure bill to a player he thinks will be cut in a few weeks. Rookie dinners aren't just about the right of passage; they’re about welcoming someone in. And Mumpfield has done plenty to prove he belongs.
Rams rookie WR Konata Mumpfield continues to impress during roster battle
Despite being a seventh-rounder, Mumpfield has been one of the most consistent risers at training camp. Coaches have praised his precise route running, natural feel for the offense, and chemistry with second-team QB Stetson Bennett.
He’s no barn burner, and he's certainly not the most explosive athlete on the field, but his quick feet and ability to find space have helped him stand out throughout camp.
His preseason debut against the Dallas Cowboys wasn’t perfect. He had a miscommunication with Bennett on a deep ball and came up short in a contested catch situation that led to an interception. But even with a few setbacks, Mumpfield bounced back with strong practices and hasn’t missed a beat since. That's growth mindset — always striving to get better.
That matters. Roster battles are often won through availability, consistency, and trust. And the veterans clearly trusted him enough to make him part of the tradition. That’s not nothing.
So while he may have left dinner with a lighter wallet and a call from Chase Bank verifying his most recent purchase, Mumpfield might have secured something far more important than a nice dinner — a real shot at sticking on the Rams’ 53-man roster.
