Rams may be far closer to exposing the Eagles in Week 3 than anyone believes

The Eagles offense still loves to run the football. But the Rams defense has upgraded since their last two games.

The Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles are set to collide in Week 3 in what’s shaping up to be one of the most compelling games of the young NFL season. Both teams are 2-0, both have Super Bowl aspirations, and both are loaded with talent on both sides of the ball. It’s not just a battle of NFC powerhouses — it’s a grudge match, with all the tension of a Greek tragedy and the spectacle of a Hollywood blockbuster.

This is the notorious Tush Push versus a young defensive front. This is the story of an impassioned David in Horns taking on Goliath in Philly. This is a tale of two teams that have consistently found success in the NFL despite constant pressure to force failure.

This is no easy task for head coach Sean McVay, who's 1-5 against Philly. However, a promising trend could be exactly what the doctor ordered. The team is 6-0 in its last six road games, a winning streak that's only bested by the 1968-69 Dallas Cowboys. And the defense is just one of six in the NFL not to allow a rushing touchdown after two games.

Rams defense is ready to crash the Eagles momentum in Week 3

LA has one of the best defenses in the league. Not just because it’s stingy in terms of yardage, but because defensive coordinator Chris Shula’s unit has allowed exactly one touchdown through the air this season. Naturally, that’s led to the Horns allowing just 14 points per game.

If you’re worried the Eagles are going to stop the good times from rolling, consider this: that Saquon Barkley-powered offense is averaging just 22 points per game. Compared to the 14 allowed by LA, it’s not that scary. And that ought to compel mutual respect, not one-sided concern.

No one running back or quarterback has been able to run their way to six against this defense. They have all the tools to keep the Birds out of the end zone too.

And yet, some are already declaring the Eagles winners. Some are ignoring the fact that the visiting team has been eager for this rematch. Philadelphia is the defending Super Bowl champion and holds a commanding lead in the NFC East after two games.

Los Angeles is locked in a three-way tie atop the NFC West after two weeks. Entering Week 3, there’s only one loss among the four teams — a divisional game in Week 1 between the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks. One team had to lose.

This is an NFL classic in the making. Both teams enter with reasons why they should win. Now, fans get a chance to see which one actually does. Television producers may have overlooked this when choosing prime-time games, but NFL fans won’t. In Week 3, one team will take the lead in the NFC. Here’s hoping that team is wearing Horns.
