The Los Angeles Rams were willing to carry up to four tight ends last season. While that was a plan to compensate for the nearly season-long absence of veteran tight end Tyler Higbee, it does set up the Rams roster for a great deal of speculation for the 2025 NFL season. How will this team address the depth of the tight end position this year?

Although a lot has been said about rookie Terrance Ferguson. He has reportedly suffered a groin injury that has kept him out of practice. It may be his absence from recent practices that has him on the bubble in the first unofficial Rams depth chart. If the depth chart is close to accurate, if only from a current moment perspective, what does that mean for the tight end position?

Let's take a look at the Rams tight end room:

  • Tight End: Tyler Higbee | Colby Parkinson | Davis Allen | Terrance Ferguson (out) /Anthony Torres / Mark Redman

Of the group, you can count on neither Higbee nor Parkinson appearing in preseason games. So what does that mean to fans? Well, in preseason Week 1, it means that they should be on the lookout for breakout performances from Davis Allen, Anthony Torres, and/or Mark Redman.

Rams fans might have to wait to see Terrance Ferguson in action

Seemingly every Rams fan is eager to see the debut of Ferguson. But after the latest injury update from Rams HC Sean McVay, the rookie is still out with a groin injury, and is considered to be in day-to-day status right now... But don't worry, his roster spot is going nowhere.

The curious situation about the 22-year-old is that, due to a training camp injury, he has not had sufficient work and reps to prepare him to instantly contribute to the offense in Week 1. To get him back on track, I expect that he will be given some preseason work to fast-track and optimize the time until the season starts.

And he's fortunate to catch passes from QB Stetson Bennett, the quarterback whose chemistry with Brock Bowers made him a highly-regarded rookie. The former Georgia Bulldog has proven that he offers a solid opportunity for tight ends to become stars.

It's expected that if the Rams go with three tight ends, Allen, Torres, and Redman are the most likely to be released. But that could all change if they show up in a big way in preseason. And for every tight end who does play well, the pressure for Ferguson increases.

Not every tight end will make the roster. By the time the dust settles, we should have a clearer idea of where players stand. There will be plenty of competition to keep on your radar. But with the team hinting at more 12-personnel packages this season, all eyes will be on the tight ends.

As always, thanks for reading.
