Myles Garrett is already giving Rams fans Aaron Donald deja vu

Most NFL veterans realize that they can ease through daily training-camp drills at less than 50 percent. But for Los Angeles Rams edge rusher Myles Garrett, 50 percent is better than 100 percent of any offensive lineman he faces. That is something the LA coaching staff is coming to grips with.

Former All-Pro Aaron Donald gave coaches fits throughout his career during camp. Donald could not throttle back far enough to give any o-lineman a chance. That, in turn, blew up plays and neutralized offensive reps.

At times, head coach Sean McVay was forced to bench Donald in practice just to allow meaningful reps for the offense.

Throughout Donald's career, the Rams struggled to find the right teammates to unlock his full potential. Ndamukong Suh seemed to be the best match for the regular season. His presence allowed Donald to have a career year. But it was not until the addition of Von Miller in 2021, the Rams' Super Bowl season, that they finally found the magic.

Myles Garrett brings best of all worlds to Rams defense

A fast-moving defensive front is fun to watch. But it's only effective if the speedsters can make plays and tackle ball carriers. Garrett may face double teams, but he has mastered all his responsibilities as an edge rusher. Sure, he can sack quarterbacks. But he sets the edge, sheds blockers, and stuffs the run as well.

In many ways, Garrett may remind Rams fans of Donald's dominance along the line of scrimmage. He not only blows up offensive plays, but he makes the tackle to end it.

Garrett appears to be picking right up where Donald left off. Beat writer Stu Jackson summarized Garrett's performance from Day 2 of training camp by saying that he "lived in the backfield."

That may be frustrating for offensive linemen and the offense as a whole, but it is awfully encouraging to the defense and to fans who are starving for an elite defender able to carry the team to victory.

Myles Garrett cannot be stopped in training camp, using only a fraction of his speed and power. Imagine the carnage when he finally gets to play at full speed and power.
