That Myles Garrett is a member of the Los Angeles Rams is difficult to comprehend as it is. Where's that LeBron James GIF when you need it? Can't believe this my life.
The reigning and two-time Defensive Player of the Year has a chance to make his arrival even more special. Winning a third award would make Garrett only the fourth player to do so in NFL history.Â
It would also put him in the company of Rams legend and future first-ballot Hall of Famer Aaron Donald. Joining AD in the archives would be one way to win over Rams fans from the jump, while making more history in the process.
Matching AD's mark would be fitting start to Garrett's Rams tenure
Lawrence Taylor and JJ Watt are the other members of the existing trio. Taylor is in the Hall of Fame. Watt will be.Â
Myles Garrett could be just the 4th player in NFL history with 3x DPOY awards. The others:

JJ Watt
Aaron Donald
Compared to the others, Garrett is, ironically, something of a late bloomer. Taylor won the award in each of his first two seasons and picked up his last in Year 6.Â
Watt earned his first as a sophomore and had two more by Year 5. If injuries hadn't wrecked his career, he would have almost surely won another.Â
After being named Defensive Rookie of the Year, Donald secured his first DPOY trophy in his fourth season, another the following year, and a third two years after that.Â
Meanwhile, Garrett didn't even make All-Pro First Team until 2020, his fourth year in the league. Not until 2023 did he win DPOY, before taking home his second piece of hardware last season. Garrett, 30, is already four years older than Watt when he last hoisted the trophy. With nine seasons under his belt, Garrett will match the length of Donald's entire career in 2026.Â
To award voters and historical archives, however, it doesn't matter when the third check hits the account, only that it does. For Garrett, kicking off his Rams chapter by joining Donald, arguably the greatest defensive tackle of all time. In the Pro Football Reference database, Donald's Hall of Fame Monitor score of 181.18 is nearly 22 points higher than the next closest name on the list.Â
Sorry, old heads. Not even Bob Lilly, Randy White, or Mean Joe Greene can measure up to AD.Â
As for Garrett, who notched a single-season record 23 sacks last year, he has already said he isn't thinking about his place in the GOAT conversation (although he does have his eye on the 200-sack threshold). For now, he can further cement his iron-clad HOF case by inking his name next to one of the greats in Horns lore.Â
Just think, he could even have the chance to do it alongside the man himself.
