Ever since the Los Angeles Rams pulled off their second blockbuster trade of 2026, this time for the best defensive player in the NFL, edge rusher Myles Garrett, fans have been bombarded with rumors about Aaron Donald's return. That's right, the great one himself could unretire and line up alongside Garrett.

And it's not a publicity stunt. This Rams rumor is real.

How do we know? Well, multiple NFL insiders have hinted as much. His friend and former teammate, Michael Brockers, dropped clues to that effect. During a live broadcast, Pat McAfee confirmed that he reached out to Donald and confirmed that all the talk about his potential return "for sure got him thinking."

Then on Tuesday evening, Jordan Schultz, another respected insider, dropped another tidbit based on his own communication with the future Hall of Famer.

“I’m for sure flirting with the idea," Donald told Schultz in a text. "Helluva an opportunity with the Super Bowl in SoFi this year. If I can find the fire, it’s a possibility.”

As unbelievable as it seemed at the end of last season, the trail of bread crumbs is adding up. Where there's smoke, there's fire. And it's blazing.

Rams should welcome back Donald with open arms

Forget the naysayers advising LA to steer clear of Donald's return. This is no publicity stunt. This is not a detour for the Rams that will distract them from developing young talent. This is about a potential reunion with a franchise legend who still has plenty in the tank. In case anyone missed it, the guy is jacked.

The team should welcome him back with open arms. Head coach Sean McVay is already prepared to do exactly that.

Los Angeles suddenly finds itself favored to win the Super Bowl. That's all conjecture, of course, and McVay rapidly squelched that aspect. It's not about who fans or oddsmakers think will lay claim to the Lombardi Trophy, but rather who earns the right to do so.

That being said, the Rams catapulted to win Super Bowl LVI after the timely return of formerly retired defensive back Eric Weddle. Could history repeat itself?

Fans certainly hope so. After all, not so long ago, Donald swore that he wouldn't be back, despite the never-ending questions to that effect. Now, his stance has changed dramatically to the point that he is contemplating his return.

Should Donald come back, it won't be to engage in training camp. He'll wait until he's certain that his presence could make a significant impact on his former team. And that's something all NFL fans should hope for.

As always, thanks for reading.
