What an absolutely wild 24 hours it has been for the Los Angeles Rams. We all knew we'd end up seeing A.J. Brown traded once June 1 hit, but who knew the Rams would go out and pull off a blockbuster for reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett?
The ripple effects of this Rams defense landing Garrett are too numerous to count, but one of them has long been on the minds of Rams fans: could this be what leads Aaron Donald out of retirement?
While speculation runs wild in the aftermath of the Garrett trade, one of Donald's former teammates went on the Locked On Rams podcast. His comments will have Rams fans losing their minds. The ex-defensive lineman Michael Brockers delivered the tease of a lifetime:
"I do have some knowledge that others might not have, but I'm not going to tell it all ... I will say this: my guy is staying ready so he doesn't have to get ready. And I'm going to leave the audience with that."
You can't say any more? Come on man! Spill it!
Rams fans might remember Brockers played alongside Donald from 2016-2020.
Aaron Donald unretirement speculation is running rampant
Brockers knows Donald well after playing five seasons with the 3-time DPOY. I think we can take his word very seriously. But he isn't the only one to float the idea of Donald coming out of retirement.
Most notably, NFL insider Adam Schefter threw gasoline on that fire almost immediately after the Garrett trade broke. If Schefter is talking about it, we had better be listening.
It might sound crazy on the surface - 35-year-old coming back to the league after three years away. Just about any other name in this scenario makes even the casual fan laugh.
But this is Aaron Donald.
We're talking about a guy who notoriously kept himself in the best shape possible, all year round. Donald is one of those players people remember, even if strictly by his training videos off the field.
Forget everything he's done on the field. Even today, you can check out his Instagram page and see that the man is keeping himself in absolutely ridiculous shape. Go back during his playing days and the workout videos will make you want to run through a wall.
Just imagine if Brockers (along with everybody else at this point) is right and Donald makes his long-awaited return to the NFL.
Even if Donald is 70 percent of his former self, that defensive front would be historic. Los Angeles has Byron Young and Kobie Turner in the fold, plus Garrett. With these young studs, Donald wouldn't even need to be the gamewrecker he was.
This could be fun. Let's hope Brockers is right.
