The Los Angeles Rams were taken aback when All-Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald opted to hang up his cleats and retire from the NFL after the 2023 season. But fans have never given up hope that Donald would burst out of retirement to rejoin his teammates. That almost happened when Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons was linked to a return to Los Angeles.
While that never happened, it did manage to set the stage for NFL insider Adam Schefter to hint at Aaron Donald's unretirement to play alongside now-Rams star Myles Garrett. Several hours later, LA Sports expert Trey Wingo chimed in to confirm that something is brewing on the Aaron Donald front.
Let’s just say that’s more than just imagination……..all I can tell you right now. https://t.co/20MWFDMEEm

While this all feels a bit too surreal, there is enough smoke not to rule out anything at this point. Even after retirement, Donald has been a strong supporter of his former team and teammates. But could he, would he, return to play for the LA Rams once more?
Myles Garrett could be enough spark for Aaron Donald's return
Aaron Donald did not retire due to injury or a lack of production. He lost the burning desire to put his body through the punishment that every player sustains over the long 17-game season. Donald lost the Eye of the Tiger. But the opportunity to join Myles Garrett could be enough to lure him back into the fray.
And many expect the Myles Garret trade to have far-reaching ripple effects. Could this development be the thing that gets Donald to don the Horns once more? General manager Les Snead has been awfully aggressive this offseason, so nothing is beyond the realm of possibility.
It may be that Los Angeles will negotiate Donald's return as the team readies for a playoff push. That would delay any reunion until November 2026 at the earliest. If that strategy sounds familiar, it should. The Rams made a similar swing during their Super Bowl season in 2021 by trading for pass rusher Von Miller.
That's a bit different, of course. Miller was still playing, after all. Donald has been retired for over two years. Still, even the remotest chance of getting him back is worth keeping on the radar. Schefter has already teased it. Now Wingo is also advising fans to keep their antennae tuned.
And you know that both Snead and head coach Sean McVay would love it. Where's there smoke, there's fire, and those plumes are a-billowing.
As always, thanks for reading.
