Myles Garrett is proving why he is exactly what the Rams need

The Los Angeles Rams were thrilled to acquire Myles Garrett, for good reason. Garrett is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, and arguably the best defender in NFL history; adding him to an already loaded roster immediately made the Rams Super Bowl favorites.

As good as Garrett is, however, there are still questions that come with adding any new player. Are they the right culture fit? Will they lead by example and go about things the right way inside and outside the building? Those are the kind of questions the Rams could only answer for themselves after having Garrett in their facility.

With training camp underway, Los Angeles has its answers - and the team is even more excited. Head coach Sean McVay elaborated during an appearance on the Up & Adams podcast with Kay Adams. The most impressive thing McVay has learned about Garrett so far is how he demands to be coached, despite already being an all-time great player:

"Here’s what’s cool, he is a good teammate, and he’s got so much depth and range…The best players that I’ve been around are secure enough to let you coach them, and as great as he is, he still demands to be coached."

Garrett's mentality is just what Rams need

McVay’s words give a glimpse into Garrett’s mindset. He’s coming off a year where he just set the single-season sacks record, with 23. Garrett, however, isn’t approaching practice as if he’s mastered the game. He understands there is always more to learn and more work to be done, and that’s exactly what he’s doing in Los Angeles.

That's precisely the type of mentality the Rams needed to add as a great team on paper and popular Super Bowl pick. That can sometimes negatively affect teams as they start buying into the hype before they really accomplish anything.

That shouldn’t be a problem for the Rams. Not only do they have a coach like McVay who won’t let anyone get complacent, they have stars like Garrett showing they aren’t bigger than the program. As long as everyone moves with that mindset, the Rams should be able to live up to expectations.
