The Los Angeles Rams entered the offseason as arguably a top-two team in the NFL, and they have since gotten significantly better with the acquisitions of Myles Garrett and Trent McDuffie. What everyone is talking about now is the chance that Aaron Donald unretires to join them.
Even without Donald, it’s no surprise that Los Angeles is considered the favorite to win it all. The productive offense is still intact, and the defense made two monster additions. It’s not hard to see why analysts are saying the Super Bowl is the Rams’ to lose.
Oftentimes, talk like that can be to the detriment of talented teams. Even players can start to buy into the hype, and it ultimately derails their journey. It’s safe to say the Rams won't have to worry about that.
Not only do they have a motivated head coach in Sean McVay, but many key players still haven’t won a Super Bowl, including Davante Adams and Myles Garrett. Their leadership should keep the team hungry.
Rams stars searching for first ring should keep Los Angeles motivated
Los Angeles just won Super Bowl LVI not that long ago, so it’s easy to overlook how different the roster is. McVay and quarterback Matthew Stafford were central orchestrators in securing that championship, but the team’s core has undergone a lot of change.
Star receiver Puka Nacua was in college at the time, and his running mate, Adams, was still with his first team, the Green Bay Packers. Garrett was a Cleveland Brown, and many of the team’s other contributors were either not in the NFL or not in L.A.
All that is to say that with some of the Rams’ best players still seeking their first championship, they should be hungrier than ever.
In three NFL seasons, the closest Nacua has ever come was last year’s NFC Championship loss. Adams, entering Year 13, has played in five conference championships but never punched his ticket to the Super Bowl. And Garrett famously put up historic numbers in Cleveland, despite the Browns’ lack of success.
Those are the kind of veterans who want nothing more than a ring on their finger. After so many years of heartbreak, they won’t get complacent before the job is done. So while analysts and fans may be quick to crown the Rams, the players know there’s still plenty of work ahead.
