New Rams uniforms don't move the needle in team wardrobe rankings

After much ado and anticipation, the Los Angeles Rams have unveiled their alternate uniforms for the 2026 season. Classic Sol and Fearsome White join a gameday wardrobe that also features Royal Blue (home-game default), Modern White (the go-to road unis), and Midnight Mode for rivalry matchups. 

Despite all the attention leading up to the reveal, the new fits don't quite stack up to the established attire. Not that there is anything wrong with paying homage to the "Crazy Legs" or Fearsome Foursome era Rams of old.

Perhaps inevitably, the uniforms themselves deliver considerably less than the hype. That said, the blinding banana-peel yellow of the Classic Sol edition is already growing, begrudgingly, on at least this Rams fan.

Ranking the Rams' five uniforms for 2026

It's not the fault of the new patterns if they fall short: matching up to the pre-existing laundry in the Rams' suave closet is a tall task. 

Here, however, is how one subjective set of rankings shakes out: 

1. Royal Blue. When it comes to classic modern-day Rams, it's hard to top the standard home wear. A proud representation of the Blue and Yellow faithful, with bonus points for the warm and fuzzy feeling associated with watching and/or attending Horns games at home.

2. Modern White. A refined, disciplined fit with just the right amount of blue and yellow against a respectable white. It holds a special place in Rams fans' hearts as the uniform of Super Bowl LVI, when LA took down the Bengals as the designated "road" team despite playing the game at SoFi Stadium.

3. Midnight Mode. A guilty pleasure, so much so that it was tempting to eschew subtler taste and plant this nocturnal masterpiece atop the list. You don't see that many jet black jerseys, and this one pulls it off in style.

4. Classic Sol. While a candidate for improved standing, all that yellow is at first glance a bit much on the eyes. At second glance, too. Put on sunglasses and you'll be good. The white pants help temper the saturated blaze. It is in any case difficult to unsee it as a riff on the California Golden Bears costume. 

That could be a positive nod - hey, they have a football team and they play in California - but given the college program's rather average standing, it doesn't feel like the necessary sort of appropriation. That's mean. Sorry. We'll see it in action shortly, in Week 2 against the New York Giants.

5. Fearsome White. More apologies - I just can't get into this one. For one thing, homage aside, it looks like an ersatz Colts fit. Lucky Indianapolis isn't on this season's schedule. The only time the Rams wear it is Week 12 against the Packers. Thankfully.
