Just a few weeks ago, the L.A. Rams were sitting at 1-4 and already we were hearing rumblings and rumors of being sellers at the trade deadline.
There were some absurd ones being flown out there, too. From a ridiculous Matthew Stafford rumor where he'd get sent to Minnesota, to more realistic rumors involving players like Cooper Kupp and Tre'Davious White, there was no shortage of headlines.
Fast forward three weeks, though, and these Rams have ripped off three wins in a row and remain in the thick of the NFC West. Not only that, but the postseason is a very real possibility with half the season to go.
So, with the trade deadline set to pass on Tuesday afternoon, where do things stand with the Rams? Just recently, it seemed a very realistic possibility that Kupp, specifically, would be traded. But now?
One NFL insider seems to be very confident in where the Rams are headed and the impending fate of Kupp by this year's trade deadline.
Cooper Kupp isn't going anywhere at this year's trade deadline
Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer wrote, in his most recent column, exactly what he believes the Rams' intentions are with Kupp:
"I doubt the Los Angeles Rams will trade Cooper Kupp—they told other teams that it’d cost more than Adams did the New York Jets—because his value probably wouldn’t match his market value. And it became less likely when Puka Nacua was banged up in practice this week."
As if Rams fans needed any more convincing following this team's recent trajectory, we can all rest assured that Kupp is highly unlikely to be moved at the deadline. It makes perfect sense, too.
More Rams news:
The only scenario that Kupp would end up being traded was going to be if the Rams were a two or three-win team at this point, and funny enough, if Puka Nacua was still banged up. If the Rams were headed no where this year, and Nacua was still hurt, there would be no reason to try and salvage this season.
But, with the Rams fully in contention for postseason play, Kupp isn't going anywhere, period. This Rams team has looked fun, rejuvenated and quite honestly, as if they could truly contend with some of the NFC's elite.
With Sean McVay at the helm, a healthy Stafford and Kupp, and Nacua hopefully inching closer to 100 percent, there's no reason why this offense can't be one of the best. Oh, and let's not forget Kyren Williams. The offense is still one of the best there is when everyone is healthy.
The real question is whether or not the defense can hold up its end of the bargain, which we'll find out as the season wears on.
