Things have been building for a few weeks in regards to quarterback Matthew Stafford and what's next for the Los Angeles Rams veteran.

What we know: he wants to play in 2025 but feels he is undervalued by the Rams, at the moment.

We also know that there are teams with confirmed interest in a trade, should Stafford end up being dealt. Those teams include, most notably, the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Giants. The Pittsburgh Steelers are also interested.

As of Friday morning, The Athletic's Dianna Russini provided an update on the matter.

"The Rams are set to meet with Matthew Stafford at their facility in person today regarding his future, per sources," Russini posted.

"A decision is expected soon," she followed up.

Will the Rams actually trade Matthew Stafford?

Along with reporting the Rams and Stafford are set to meet on Friday, Russini also noted that the Giants and Raiders are already prepared to offer Stafford a 2-year contract with anywhere betwen $90 million and $100 million guaranteed.

In short, that puts the Raiders and Giants well ahead of where the Rams have been. All indications have been that L.A. does not want to pay Stafford that type of dollar in guarantees. We've seen reports that the Rams are not necessarily willing to go multiple years.

What first started out as a rumor that seemed way too absurd to believe has now turned into something with real legs. The fact that other teams have now spoken with Stafford's agent and are prepared with a contract offer says something.

Related Rams news:

The ball is entirely in the Rams' court, now. Stafford wants to play. Other teams are willing to pay what he's worth.

Are the Rams going to be one of those teams as well?

As Russini stated, we will see a decision soon. How soon? The word seems ambiguous in most cases, like this, but the Stafford situation seems different.

"Soon" truly sounds like we could be seeing a decision happening within the weekend. After all, what better time to get something like this done than Combine week?

If the Rams do end up trading Stafford, then the question becomes which team will become the highest bidder. And then, will Los Angeles be pursuing the likes of Aaron Rodgers? Will they stay put with Jimmy Garoppolo for a year?

This is one giant domino that's about to fall.
