NFL insider floats Cooper Kupp trade idea that actually makes a lot of sense
By Ryan Heckman
At 1-4, you have to start wondering whether or not the Los Angeles Rams are going to think about cashing in on the season.
With some gigantic trades going down, already, the Rams very well could get in on the action in the coming days. The NFL trade deadline is on November 5, which is now less than three weeks away.
Would the Rams trade ... Cooper Kupp?
It might sound crazy, at first, but one NFL insider floated the idea and it actually does make a lot of sense.
On a recent episode of the Rich Eisen Show, Tom Pelissero was asked about the Rams' current state of affairs and whether or not there is a fix for their issues. Additionally, Pelissero dove into the potential of L.A. dealing Kupp.
"If you lose one or maybe even both of those games between the Raiders and the Vikings, and then you got a long weekend to think about it, are you going into sell mode?" Pelissero asked.
More Rams news:
He went on to say he believed the Rams could actually get a haul for Kupp, despite injury concerns.
"Cooper Kupp is not the youngest player anymore ... but he would command a lot at the trade deadline. How often does a player like that become available?" he went on.
If the Rams clearly fall out of the playoff race, it makes sense to sell at the trade deadline
Look, if L.A. could get something like a second-round pick plus additional draft compensation for Kupp, then they'd have to at least think about it.
Because Sean McVay is who he is, the Rams could potentially end up being just fine in a year or two without Kupp. Puka Nacua is their young, go-to guy at this point. Jordan Whittington has shown some good things as well.
And, how many more Kupp injuries are the Rams willing to try and work through? At this point, it's become a trend. As disappointing as it is to admit, it's the truth.
Kupp might not even be the only big name the Rams could trade, either.
Pelissero went on to chat about the possibility of quarterback Matthew Stafford being traded as well, noting "He's essentially on a year-to-year plan, gave up his future guarantees ... we don't know if he intends to play football in 2025."
If the Rams find themselves well under .500 after the next couple of weeks, it wouldn't be illogical for the team to trade both Kupp and Stafford. Now, whether there's a team out there who would want to make a deal for Stafford is another issue entirely. That's far less likely to happen than a Kupp trade, but the point is, these Rams could be headed in a new direction.
