Few needs. Eight picks. Let's have some fun.

The Los Angeles Rams have done a remarkable job of setting up the team to be quite versatile for the 2025 NFL Draft. Unlike some teams, the Rams could start the 2025 NFL season as is and still be quite competitive. That is not to say that the team is prepared to trade all picks for future considerations. Rather, the team is built to be quite flexible. If the team has the opportunity to trade up, trade back, or stand pat, the Rams roster is sufficiently stocked to allow for that.

Even as some teams enter the draft needing to address the quarterback position, the Rams roster boasts two veterans: QB Matthew Stafford and Jimmy Garoppolo.

NFL Insider Albert Breer concurs with the Rams' light shopping list. In a recent rundown of all 32 NFL teams and their respective draft needs, Breer lists just three positions that should be on the team's draft shopping list: Cornerback, inside linebacker, and quarterback. Based on another Albert Breer's article that holds a rather pessimistic view of quarterbacks in this draft, they are unlikely to be on the shopping list on Day 1.

And based on what we know about the LA Rams' investment pattern in the inside linebacker since hiring Head Coach Sean McVay, the team is rather unlikely to invest in an inside linebacker on Days 1 or 2 this year. By a simple process of elimination, the team may be prepared after months of vetting to select a very talented cornerback in Round 1.

Per the new Artificial Intelligence feature of the NFL draft site known as Draft IQ, the probability of the Rams selecting a cornerback in Round 1 is the greatest, at nearly one in four chances. While the Rams have initiated discussions with the Miami Dolphins over a trade for former Rams All-Pro defensive back Jalen Ramsey, both teams agreed to reconvene after the 2025 NFL Draft had concluded.

The reason for a hiatus is far more logical if the Rams intend to fill their cornerback needs in the 2025 NFL Draft. Any cornerback selected on Days 1 or 2 of the draft can reasonably be expected to be a significant contributor to the team's secondary this season. If the right rookie is selected, the Rams could even earmark a starting role for him this year.

In virtually all other positions not named inside linebacker, any rookie selection added will have a tough battle ahead to get significant playing time, let alone a starting role. And right now, few positions on the Rams' depth chart are questioned enough to project a starting path for a rookie.

And of course, there is also a chance that the Rams simply trade back and out of Round 1. While adding draft picks, Rams fans' thirst for knowledge about the draft class will be put on hold for another 24 hours. Hmm.

Which position will the Rams address on Day 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft. We will know soon enough.

As always, thanks for reading.
