When the Los Angeles Rams loaded up at the 2021 NFL trade deadline, general manager Les Snead pulled off a blockbuster deal that nobody thought possible. He not only pried legendary pass rusher Von Miller from the Denver Broncos, but he also negotiated a deal that found the Broncos prepaying much of his salary. Everyone recognized the importance of that deal, as it put the Rams over the top.

The team went on to win Super Bowl LVI, just as many expected would happen.

It was a destiny that Los Angeles rightfully claimed for itself. It was a team, fueled by the tears of its own legend, Aaron Donald, that took on an organizational sense of urgency that is unrivaled in today's NFL. The entire football organization was of one mind: Get Aaron Donald his Super Bowl ring. It happened because everyone was on board.

NFL rumors run wild at the annual NFL trade deadline. But this year, the Rams are linked as motivated shoppers. Moreso, wherever a pass rusher is rumored to garner interest, Les Snead is among the NFL general managers snooping around. He has been linked to both the Cincinnati Bengals' pass rusher Trey Henderickson and the Miami Dolphins' pass rusher Bradley Chubb.

It's deja vu all over again.

Can Les Snead find Von Miller 2.0 at the NFL trade deadline?

Les Snead managed to find Von Miller in 2021 because the team was urgently scrambling to avoid wasting legendary defensive tackle Aaron Donald's final years with the team.

Now, a similar smoldering urgency is powering LA once more. Matthew Stafford, a 37-year-old starting quarterback, exposed his vulnerabilities in training camp with a stubborn back injury, and the team is scrambling to ensure that one of his best seasons does not go to waste.

Yes, the Rams pass rush is superb. In fact, the entire defense is running at a pace only hoped for in 2021. But the savvy Snead is committed to ensuring the current roster can handle the next 10 games, plus four playoff games. And he has to plan for every contingency, including unthinkable injury scenarios.

Will Snead strike at this NFL trade deadline? It takes two to tango. The price of acquiring game-changing talent has gone up. And multiple NFL teams, now quite versed in Snead's strategy, are employing a similar all-in tactic at the trade deadline for their own teams.

Rams fans expect the team to make an effort for a wide receiver, an offensive lineman, or even another cornerback at the trade deadline. That may yet take place. But don't erase pass rushers from the shopping list just yet. It seems that Snead is seeking his next Von Miller blockbuster trade. And it would be a shame if that surprises you if and when it happens.

As always, thanks for reading.
