As injuries mount, Rams rumors of signing a cornerback burn red hot
By Bret Stuter
The LA Rams may be signing a player (or two or three) after an outbreak of injuries has hammered the team's secondary. We know that due to a confirmed torn ACL, CB Derion Kendrick's 2024 NFL season was finished before it ever started. And we just learned that on the last play of the second day of training camp, star cornerback Darious Williams came up limping.
Two days of training camp. Two injuries. Two cornerbacks. That is an alarming trend, and one that this team will have to get out in front of instantly. There is no margin of error in 2024 as there was in 2023. The Rams BYE falls on Week 6, not Week 10. And the team faces significant pressure to get off to a hot start in 2024.
Not only does all of the positive momentum build in a furious finish in 2023 depend on it, but the Rams face some pretty competitive opponents to start the 2024 NFL season. Opponents who, if victorious, gain a tremendous early season advantage in the ultimate race for a favorable berth in the upcoming NFL Playoffs.
So winning early is vital to this team.
Rams Rumors burning bright after 2nd secondary injury
The LA Rams know that the key to winning in 2024 is a strong secondary. But with one cornerback out for the season, and another cornerback limping with a suspected hamstring injury, the team has to take action quickly.
That action includes signing more cornerbacks, an action that LA Rams HC Sean McVay confirmed was very much on the table:
After all, it makes so much sense right now. We had proposed a short list of five cornerbacks who are ready to sign with an NFL team, and Ahkello Witherspoon was tops on our list.
Clearly, HC Sean McVay thinks so as well.
If you have been following the LA Rams, two things ring true. HC Sean McVay knows that speaking to a reporter publicly puts his thoughts out there for all to see, read, and analyze. The second thing is that what Coach McVay wants, GM Les Snead will go to great lengths to add to this roster. And as Sean McVay has stated above:
"I loved working with Ahkello (Witherspoon) last year"
- Rams HC Sean McVay
You can bet that Les Snead is on the phone right now sizing up Witherspoons' s interest and contract expectations to return to the Rams roster.
And we continue to emphasize that this is a rapidly developing storyline. Please stay tuned.
And as always, thanks for reading.
