He may not be perfect, but this rookie is perfectly suited to be the Rams hero

He may not be perfect, but after three games, his accuracy certainly is.

It's not every day that an LA Rams rookie has the opportunity to make a play that will lead to one of two destinations. Either he will pass the test and emerge as the helo. Or he will fail the test, and the blame of the loss will bury him under an avalanche of fans ire and vitriol. If that player is rookie kicker Joshua Karty, look for him to emerge as the hero

In a miraculous Week 3 victory, that is exactly what the LA Rams rookie kicker did. With a play that began with just five seconds on the game clock, the boot that gave the Rams the lead in the game for the first time only required three seconds. Yet, it was enough. You see, two seconds later, time ran out, and the Rams, trailing by as much as 14 points for the entire game, had won a game that nobody thought possible.

It was a miraculous victory. And Karty was the team's faith healer.

Winning cures many things. The Rams, caught between the outcome of 1-2 (and defeating the 49ers in the process) or 0-3 (and falling to 0-2 in the NFC Western Division), had to win this game. The Rams roster is decimated with injuries. The Rams were blown out in a Week 2 loss. This team needed to prove to itself and to Rams fans worldwide that this is a team that can compete in a close game.

That's exactly what happened in the end.

In the game, rookie kicker Joshua Karty booted three extra points and two field goals. But that last field goal with just seconds remaining on the game clock, was by far his biggest kick of the season. When that 37-yard field goal left his foot, there was no doubt in anyone's mind. The LA Rams were on their way to victory.

Joshua Karty came through.

Rams rookie kicker Joshua Karty is made for moments like this. He is a perfectionist, a maestro of the football maelstrom known as the buzzer-beater. He feels no pressure because he creates the same demand from himself every day in practice with every kick. When the Rams did not activate kicker Tanner Brown from the practice squad in Week 3, we knew then. Not only would Karty play in Week 3, but he would kick the game-winner.

Here is the winning field goal as called during the game.

It was a miraculous win. But every miracle needs a bit of faith. As soon as Karty stepped onto the football field to win the game, Rams fans understood the outcome of the game was already sealed.

Karty came through.

As always, thanks for reading.
