Cardinals rookie is giving the Rams some early bulletin board material with trash talk
With their first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams got a steal with their selection of Jared Verse. The run on offensive players helped the Rams get one of the best pass-rushers in the entire draft and he's already winning Rams fans over.
Verse's Florida State teammate, Trey Benson, was drafted in the third round by the Arizona Cardinals and the two are already having fun talking smack. The two chatted appeared on Burns & Gambo and Verse kicked off the trash-talking by stating that he was going to take "the paint off [Benson's] helmet".
Benson then jumped in saying that Verse was going to have to catch him first and that he knew Verse wouldn't be able to catch him. This is kicking off what's going to be a fun friendly rivalry to keep an eye on over the next several years.
Jared Verse is talking smack to the Cardinals and we love it
Verse is joining a revamped Rams defense and will have some big shoes to fill now that Aaron Donald is entering retired life. The Rams were also bold and moved up in the second round to add Verse's (and Benson's) Florida State teammate Braden Fiske. This was another move that showed they're planning on their defense not missing a step in 2024 without Donald.
If Benson's comments about Verse not being able to catch him can serve as motivation when those two meet on the field, then so be it. Let's hope Verse gets the better of Benson in that eventual match-up.
