LA Rams front office blitzes roster to keep Rams running game on track

The LA Rams learned after a Week 6 win that they had lost their top two running backs. So the Rams front office blitzes the roster to ensure that the Rams running game stays on track for Week 7

When the LA Rams targeted and hired running back coach Ron Gould, there was nearly a standing ovation over the addition to the Rams coaching staff. At the time of the hire, I was both excited and eager to see how he might impact the Rams rushing offense. I highlighted three things that Rams fans might find interesting, but the list of his accolades and accomplishments could be a novel.

Still, the NFL is no place to get all caught up on polishing trophies or spend time staring at a filled trophy case. The LA Rams did not hire Coach Gould for what he had done, but rather for what he can do for the LA Rams. And it seems that right now, he has an urgent matter that needs to be addressed.

Gould is an old-school coach who takes his role very seriously. Much like LA Rams defensive line coach Eric Henderson, he excels at delivering opportunities and great training to his players. But he holds them accountable, a fact that may have already taken its toll with the sudden and irrevocable manner in which the LA Rams parted ways with veteran RB Cam Akers.

The Goulden rule

And that is something that is both positive and long overdue for this team:

My philosophy as a coach is to create an environment where each and every young man can optimize their potential in the classroom, in the community, and on the field. We achieve this together through trust, accountability, structure, discipline, and hard work." -Ron Gould as per his UC Davis head coach profile.

The NFL is not a clubhouse for luxury. It's a highly competitive sport that will give you as much as you earn. Coach Ron Gould has made it a point to deliver for his players whatever they need, and as much as they can handle.

So far, his impact to the LA Rams can only be measured indirectly. We know that the Rams drafted RB Kyren Williams before Gould arrived. But would he have gained 456 yards and six rushing touchdowns in the first six games without Coach Gould? I am going to say no, and here's why.
