To say that the Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Rams are nursing bump and bruises, aches and pains, is a bit of an understatement. After a full month of impact sport competition, both teams are doubling up on their Icy Hot shipments of sore muscle ointment. But In my view, the Rams are the most severely impacted team so far in 2024.

That's why we offer a complete list of players on IR with the final injury report. In my opinion, the week injury report does begin to tell the story for the Rams roster, and the struggles of swapping players like spark plugs in the early going

Key Absences and Their Impact

Offensive Impact

  • The absence of veteran WR Cooper Kupp continues to strain the offense. Look for the team to attempt to fill the void by targetting WRs Tutu Atwell, Jordan Whittington, and TE Colby Parkinson against the Packers in Week 5
  • Almost all scoring has been by veteran RB Kyren Williams. The team has to get rookie RB Blake Corum integrated into the offense. Scoring cannot remain exclusively on Kyren Williams' shoulders.
  • The Rams invested heavily into the tight end position. But the team has not done much about it. The team has to commit to throwing to tight ends in Week 5. TE Colby Parkinson remains the most likely target, but hopefully, the team will figure out some way to involve second-year tight end Davis Allen in the offense as well.

Defensive Impact

  • There is no doubt that the Rams pass rush can put up enough quarterback pressure. The team simply needs to close the deal. Rookie OLB Jared Verse had 2.0 QB sacks taken off the board due to defensive penalties in Week 4. I think he, and Kobie Turner, get to the QB in Week 5.
  • The Rams secondary has been horrible. But the jury is out for Week 5, as the team is set to get both DB Ahkello Witherspoon and Darious Williams more involved. I am cautiously optimistic, as adding the pair could turn this secondary around quickly.
  • The Rams' defense has not been generating turnovers as quickly as hoped. If the Rams lose the turnover battle, they will lose the game. But the team has shown signs of forcing fumbles. It remains to be seen if all of the ball-hawking defensive backs added in the offseason can begin to intercept passes.

Special Teams Impact

  • Rookie kicker Joshua Karty has been phenomenal. He has missed just one field goal so far this season. While he may not break the Rams rookie scoring record for kickers, he is certainly delivering as hoped for.
  • PR Xavier Smith may not have set up the team to win in Week 4. But he is one punt return away from a game-breaking return.

Ultimately, the Rams need to put up a complete game, have no giveaways, play with discipline, and be innovative on both offense and defense. The Packers are a tough opponent in Week 5.

But it only gets tougher from here. Thanks for reading.
