LA Rams most dangerous offensive weapon suffers setback
By Bret Stuter
The LA Rams are now tasked with pivoting from concerns over the Rams roster and their 16-man practice squad to concerns over the Rams' first opponent in the 2023 NFL season, the Seattle Seahawks. As the Rams do so, does anyone else get a feeling of Deja Vu all over again?
Yes, I'm a bit tender when it comes to news about the LA Rams roster and any injury reports, particularly so when the injuries occurred and the Rams have not even taken a single snap in a regular season NFL game.
Without Kupp, the LA Rams will lose their best offensive weapon. That, in turn, will force the offense to turn to lesser talented players on the football field. On the defensive side of the ball, the Rams will be forced to press harder, which is asking for trouble with a newly formed defense that is loaded with rookies.
To get the full breakdown on Coop Kupp's injury, and the way that LA Rams Head Coach Sean McVay plans to handle this setback, you can click on this link here.
"I've heard (head team physician Dr.) Neal ElAttrache say this before, there's a difference between return to play and return to performance, and we want return to performance for Cooper Kupp. We know how special of a player, how special of a person he is, and so (we) want to make sure we're smart with that in getting him back to feeling like the Cooper Kupp that we all know, and that he's able to play the way he's capable of, whenever that is. Whether that be September 10th or not, we'll continue to monitor that and control what we can control"
- Sean McVay
If Kupp cannot go, and the measure of McVay's words suggest that is a real possibility, the Rams could struggle to find success in the season opener. Unfortunately, we know how easily and quickly things can suddenly nosedive out of control.
How many fans will keep their faith in the LA Rams if the team drops the season opener? Even as the we are sitting back and observing how the Rams mettle with hold up if adversity rears its ugly head this year. But how well will our own mettle hold up to the test?
This season could be disappointing, but only if you set expectations too highly for this team. Enter the 2023 NFL season with an open mind, and enjoy the journey. It could be a thrilling trek this year, that's for certain.
