LA Rams must consider making this QB trade with up and coming AFC team
The Los Angeles Rams might not be as set with their backup QB situation as we think, so they should call this up and coming AFC team about one of their QBs. It's never too early to start planning for the future, as the QB room for the Rams is the total opposite of that. Matthew Stafford is entering his age-36 season.
Backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo is turning 33 years old this season and is always banged up, and Stetson Bennett is... well, Stetson Bennett. The Rams might be perfectly confident in the QB room for the 2024 NFL Season, but I can genuinely see some major change happening to this unit as soon as next offseason.
While we don't want to see it happen, there is always a chance that Stafford, who is closer to 40 than 30, hits a wall and meets Father Time. There's also a chance that the often-injured Garoppolo again gets hurt somehow in the 2024 NFL Season. In order to prepare for the worst, which is what any NFL team should do, the Rams should consider calling up the Denver Broncos of the AFC West to see if they'd be interested in parting ways with QB Jarrett Stidham.
Right now, the Broncos seem poised to start rookie QB Bo Nix in 2024 and have Stidham serve as the backup. But former second overall pick Zach Wilson is lurking behind Stidham, and he looked quite good in the Broncos first preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts. In fact, when Denver traded for Wilson, the thought there had to be that they hoped Wilson could earn the QB2 job.
He was a former second overall pick for a reason. And with Stidham, the Rams would be getting a much safer and more reliable QB2 option. Stidham is only a backup, but he did play reasonably well in limited action for Denver in 2023. LA would have to cut ties with either Jimmy Garoppolo or Stetson Bennett, but it'd be for the better.
With Stidham, you also have to consider the possibility that perhaps Matthew Stafford is not the team's QB1 in 2025, and the Rams reset with a rookie. Stidham may be able to serve as the rookie bridge, which would be a fine solution. LA would have to re-sign Stidham, but to me, that would not be a challenge in this hypothetical.
What do you think; should the Los Angeles Rams make a trade for Jarrett Stidham?
