It's not all bad!

The Rams' offensive line has had just about the worst start possible this season. After throwing a ton of money at the line this offseason, injuries have sidelined presumptive starters Jonah Williams, Rob Havenstein, and Alaric Jackson. It's been more-or-less a constant stream of bad news for the unit, and GM Les Snead has been busy in these first few weeks trying to get replacements into camp quickly.

So you'd excuse Rams fans for enjoying one quick moment of offensive line peace, courtesy of Albert Breer. The Sports Illustrated NFL Insider recently published his latest mailbag, and in it a wonderful piece of Rams news. (/opinion) While naming a handful of guys who he thinks will have big years in 2024, Breer mentions that Avila – who's moving over from guard to center – is "up to the challenge." We'll take it!

Avila lands on Breer's list of under-the-radar breakthrough candidates

"He’s moving inside this year from left guard, with the team having brought in big-money guards, and the 2023 second-rounder has taken to the change in a big way. That position is vital in Sean McVay’s offense."

I sorta think that center is vital in every head coach's offense, but I guess I get Breer's overall point. Avila's rookie season had its ups and downs, though it's easy to be optimistic about a season playing between two of the best guards in football.

Being on Albert Breer's list of hipster Pro Bowl candidates is obviously less important longterm than being "healthy," but of course no one wants to hear that right now, especially after these last couple of weeks. Alex Avila breakout season is coming, and the Rams' offensive line issues are a thing of the past. This will probably be the last time anyone even talks about it.
