Rams 1st wave includes cutting a total of 12 players including a 2023 draft pick
By Bret Stuter
The LA Rams are on their way to paring down the roster. The team released RB Boston Scott, DT Carlos Watkins, and OL Matt Kaskey and then news surfaced of another nine players being released today. That brings the total number of players who are no longer with the team to 12. The final nine players who were released today include:
Per the LA Rams' official website, the number of players named on the team roster is 79. But from that number, we have to make some adjustments. Let's start with DB Derion Kendrick, a player who had suffered an ACL injury and is projected to be out for the 2024 NFL season. He is expected to be moved to the team IR designation, but the team has not done so just yet. So that brings the team to 78 players.
Now we must consider the impact of both QB Jimmy Garoppolo and LT Alaric Jackson serving a two-game suspension to open the 2024 NFL season. At the moment that the Rams must be at the 53-player limit, the NFL will consider both Garoppolo and Jackson as suspended players who are beginning to serve their two-game suspension. That brings the number of players down to effectively 76.
While the team continues to pare down, it's important to track who and from which positions players are being shed. To stay abreast of roster cuts in real-time, we recommend that you check back frequently on our LA Rams roster cuts tracker. There you will find the latest news about the team's decisions of who to part ways with, even before we feature those roster moves in an article. With the team effective at 76 players now, the Rams will need to part ways with an additional 23 more. As the team continues to release players, each subsequent release will be ever closer to the bone.
Such is the reality of a very talented and deep roster.
Also, keep in mind that there are real people, with real family and friends, behind the news over the next couple of days. Lives will be altered, dreams shattered. It costs nothing to share a little kindness to the players who must now await a new football opportunity to realize their dreams.
For our part, thank you to every player who competed in Horns this year. I cannot remember a preseason that was nearly as entertaining as 2024.
And as always, thanks for reading.
