Rams continue to rely on this player on offense, and it's not going to end well

The Rams have to find other ways to score, before they are forced to.

The LA Rams are in another fight for their life. Well, the pressure to win for the Rams after a 1-3 start is enormous. So in terms of putting life back into the team's 2024 season, yes. That's right. But the Rams are a bit beaten up for Week 5. Still, this is a team that has a bit of luck and domino effect in play for this game.

The Rams face the Green Bay Packers, an opponent that is also reeling a bit from injuries.

As such, this game will not be pretty. So far it hasn't been. The Rams drove the football all the way down to the Green Bay Packers six-yard line, and stalled. That turned a sure-points scenario into a Green Bay Packers possession. But was that the strategy? After the Rams defense held the Packers and forced a punt, the offense drove for a touchdown.

It is an unusual contest so far. The Packers are the second-ranked rushing offense in the NFL, but the Rams defense are doing a pretty good job of ground them. The Packers, conversely, are not as effective at grounding the Rams running attack.

And that is continuing to encourage the Rams offense in a bad habit.

The LA Rams have scored eight touchdowns this year. WR Cooper Kupp has scored one touchdown. All seven remaining touchdowns have been scored by RB Kyren Williams.

With 2:02 remaining, the Rams defense forced Packers QB Jordan Love to throw off balance in his own end zone. To avoid a safety, he tried to hurl a lame duck pass, which fell right into the arms of rookie defensive back Jaylen McCollough. McCollough scampered in from the Packers four-yard line for the score.

And just like that, the Rams are up by six points.

But the offense is becoming far too rutted, far too predictable. Despite being ahead on the scoreboard, the offense is falling into all too familiar patterns. The Rams are content to play 11 personnel frequently. The team gets solid runs out of Blake Corum, but 13 of 18 runs have been featured RB Kyren Williams.

If anything happens to Williams, the Rams have no player currently active on the roster who has entered the end zone besides Kyren Williams. There have been opportunities to score with RB Blake Corum or TE Colby Parkinson.

So far, as the case has been all season, the Rams have relied entirely on Kyren Williams to score. If that does not change quickly, this team is going to struggle all season, no matter who heals up and returns.

Halftime

  • Green Bay Packers - 10
  • Los Angeles Rams - 13
